The Booking Process

The booking process is the heart of your ticket selling activities. This page gives an overview of what your customers will see here.

Free vs. Premium

Multi-ride tickets and reservations as well as some booking features (transfer connections, newletter registration during checkout) are only available in the “Premium“ version.

The booking area is the part of a shop which the customer reaches when going to https://shop.tixys.com/shopname. Here, the customer can create, pay and retrieve tickets.

Create a ticket and add it to the cart

The booking process is similar for single-ride and multi-ride tickets, it starts at the home page of the booking area.

First, the customer selects the start and the departure station.

When a station has been selected, its geographical location can be viewed on the map by clicking the marker next to the selection field.

After the customer has selected both stations, the system will allow searching for connections. If multi-ride ticket types are available, they are also shown.

When the customer decides to buy a single-ride ticket and starts a connection search, all available connections for the selected day will be shown. A different day can be selected with the date picker.

If a connection contains a transfer, the legs can be shown by clicking on “show details”.

After choosing a connection, the customer can select the passengers. When the number of passengers is changed, the ticket price is recalculated and instantly displayed. After selecting the passengers, the ticket can be added to the cart.

When the ticket has been added to the cart, all of its details will be shown to the customer, so he can check if everything is correct.

Adding a multi-ride ticket also starts on the booking area homepage. After selecting the stations, available ticket types are shown.

After selecting a ticket type, the customer can select passengers for the ticket.

If the ticket type’s period of validity is limited, the customer can select the period during which his ticket will be valid. Then the ticket can be added to the cart.

Again, after adding the ticket, all of its details will be shown to the customer.

Previously added tickets can be viewed by clicking the cart area in the top navigation bar. There, the customer can view all tickets and delete them if necessary.

Tickets in the customer’s shopping cart are stored with a “temporary” status on the server. This means that the ticket is not yet valid and has yet to be paid for. In case of single-ride tickets, the required seats on the selected connection are however reserved for the customer. Temporary tickets go stale after a short period of time if they are abandoned, the reserved seats will be released again.

Checkout

Tixys features a one-page checkout, and tries to collect as few information as possible, in order to avoid conversion breaks and conflicts with privacy regulations.

At the top of the checkout page, the tickets of the cart are listed.

For each ticket, the customer can redeem one voucher or coupon. If there are two or more tickets in the cart, for each of them a coupon/voucher code can be applied. It is also possible to use a voucher multiple times within one booking, as long as it has enough credit.

When the voucher or coupon is valid, the ticket price is reduced accordingly.

The second section of the checkout page is for entering the payment details. The customer can select from one or more payment methods (depending on what the shop offers).

After selecting a payment method, the account details can be entered.

Then, the customer must enter his name and e-mail address and accept the Terms of Service.

The operator’s Terms of Service can be displayed in the context of the checkout page.

Finally, the payment is being submitted for processing. The customer is being redirected to the payment provider’s server. In some cases, the payment server will require additional information. For example, PayPal will ask the user to log in and confirm the payment.

When the payment has been successfully processed, the customer receives the tickets. They can be downloaded as PDF documents and are additionally sent by e-mail.

Reservations

Reservations are required to actually use a multi-ride ticket. The reservation page is available at https://shop.tixys.com/shopname/reservation.

This URL is printed on each multi-ride ticket and in the confirmation e-mail for a multi-ride ticket, so that the customer can easily create a reservation for the actual usage of the multi-ride ticket.

The reservation process is very simple:

  • First, the customer is asked to enter the multi-ride ticket code. (This step is omitted if the ticket code is already appended to the reservation page URL.)
  • In the next step, the customer selects the desired date, and, if the multi-ride ticket is bidirectional, the travel direction.
  • After that, a connection search is triggered, and the customer can select one of them.
  • Finally, the details of the selected connection are presented, so that the customer can confirm the reservation.
  • After confirming, the customer receives the reservation as a PDF document and via e-mail – similar to a normal ticket. This reservation entitles the customer to ride on the connection it was issued for.
